Pets need attention, exercise and love

Pets need attention, exercise and love

As I sit here and listen to a small dog howling on the next street over, I would sincerely ask dog owners to be mindful of what thoughtful dog ownership means.

There are two dogs on my own street that are tied up to their respective dog houses by 3-foot ropes, day after day after day. Every time I walk by with my own dog, their mournful eyes ask to please “help me.”

My dog has a fenced backyard to run in. She gets exercised and walked every day — and yes, I do pick up after my dog always. She gets talked to and played with all the time.

So, please if you do not have a fenced yard, if you do not walk and exercise your dog, if you do not play with and love the animal — then kindly do not have a dog. What is the point? It is sad to listen to the cries and even sadder to see.
